Full-Spectrum Doula Certification

 

Doulas are non-medical birth professions who navigate numerous spaces to promote healing, education, and advocacy for pregnant people. This is a full spectrum doula certification course that covers many topics that are untouched by mainstream doula certification programs and while help in serving marginalized populations. This includes working with birth, miscarriage, and abortion care. Serving the LGBTQ community and cultural humility in reproductive care. Participants will leave able to begin a practice that offers education, support, and holistic wellness to numerous communities.

  • Holistic approaches to reproductive care

  • Queer competency in birth support

  • Cultural humility and health disparities

  • Trauma-informed reproductive care

  • Yoga and dance for pregnancy and birth

  • Educating clients on their options

  • Supporting clients through birth, miscarriage, and abortion

What is a full-spectrum doula training? Who is it for?

 

Doulas are non-medical birth professions who navigate numerous spaces to promote healing, education, and advocacy for pregnant people. They can work in schools, community center, clinics, and non-profits helping people navigate healthcare systems and educating to make sure their clients make informed decisions that are best for them. 

 

 

What does it cover?

 

This is a full spectrum doula certification course that covers many topics that are untouched by mainstream doula certification programs and while help in serving marginalized populations. This includes working with birth, miscarriage, and abortion care. Serving the LGBTQ community and cultural humility in reproductive care. Participants will leave able to begin a practice that offers education, support, and holistic wellness to numerous communities.

 

 What is included?

 

Our trainings are two on-site days where we cover all of the above topics and are able to have group discussions and exercises to enhance the learning experience.

Included in the cost are all of your reading materials, the two days of training, as well as five free coaching hours to use throughout your first year.  Lunch will be included. Accommodations are not included. If many participants are traveling to the workshop from out of the area a retreat option may be available for an additional amount.

Dr. Laura McGuire is a nationally recognized sexuality educator, trauma-informed specialist, and inclusion consultant. She has worked as an instructor, presenter, educator, consultant and trainer on topics including:

  • Pregnancy and Birth Education

  • LGBTQ Inclusion

Dr. McGuire earned her bachelor's degree in social sciences from Thomas Edison State University and her graduate degrees in educational leadership for change from Fielding Graduate University. Her doctoral dissertation, entitled “Seen but Not Heard: Pathways to Improve Inclusion of LGBT Persons and Sexual Trauma Survivors in Sexual Health Education,” examined the marginalization of sexual minorities within health education on a global scale. 

Dr. McGuire is a certified full-spectrum doula, professional teacher,  a certified sexual health educator, and a vinyasa yoga instructor. Her experience includes both public and private sectors, middle schools, high schools, and university settings. In 2015, she served as the first Sexual Violence Prevention and Education Program Manager at the University of Houston, and in 2017, she became the first Victim Advocate/Prevention Educator at the US Merchant Marine Academy. She is a member of the American Association of Sexuality Educators Counselors and Therapists (AASECT), Society of Professional Consultants, and is a member of numerous boards and committees. She is the co-creator of The SMART App. Dr. McGuire lives in the United States, where she works as a full-time consultant and expert witness at The National Center for Equity and Agency.
